Rottweiller

Owned by Chris White

Phoenix, also known as Fifi, is a 8.5 year old Rottweiler who has competed in many different disciplines and is titled in Herding, Obedience, Endurance, Rally, Showing and of course Tracking.  Although she loves herding and worked sheep, cattle and ducks, her real passion is for Tracking.  Fifi is also a Pets as Therapy dog for Villa Maria Berwick and makes fortnightly visits on a Friday.  She just loves her time with the special residents at Villa Maria and fills a void that can only be filled by cuddling a furry companion.  Fifi also has a career in the TV industry and only recently shot some scenes for an upcoming movie.  Her famous father Polo, is none other than Cujo from Kath & Kim, and Fi is fast following in her dad’s footsteps.  She appeared last year in Pets Practice, has appeared on a TV commercial for Artemis Pet Food Australia and has been in a number of news items for Channel  7, 9 & 10.  Fifi is a very fit and athletic dog who lives on a 23 acre hobby farm in Upper Beaconsfield with her mum, dad, half-brother Beno, and little white fluffie Mitch and the Toothinator otherwise known as Dr Zeus.  Go the Fifinator.

Killara Thalo (Atlas) sometimes known as the “clown” in obedience circles, gained his Tracking Champion title at Haddon in 2006 after achieving an Excellent grading on his Test 5 at Inverleigh.  He comes from a litter that had three Tracking champions in it.  Like his mother Vixen, Atlas loves to track and has fun playing a vigorous tug game for his article at the end of every track.  He completed Track and Search and loved every bit of it.  One of his favourite pastimes is looking after puppies.  We had to build a bigger puppy box to fit him in as well as their Mum.  Mostly he is a couch potato, but if I was ever lost I know who I would trust to find me.

2012 T CH KELLA TSDX HT RN “Kella”
German Shepherd Dog
owned by Dianne Cameron
DOB 13 April 2006

T Ch Kella TSDX

Kella is the first dog I’ve ever trained.  Due to distance I mainly learned to track through reading books and asking lots of questions.  Thankfully the tracking community is a friendly one where people are very happy to help.   Kel lives to please and happily has a go at anything I ask of her.  Tracking is her passion and at times she’s brought her harness or tracking bag to me as if to say “come on, let’s go”.

One day Kel escaped from the house while I was setting a track out for her.  I got to the end of the track to find her happily approaching at fast pace.  She didn’t just go to the end of the track, she actually followed the track around and ate the kabana out of every sock along the way.

Kella has seven titles in four different disciplines but her absolute passion is tracking.  From her first trial in Tracking to her last one in Track and Search she was always honest and keen. The more nervous I was, the more she told me just hang on and follow.  She did all the work and achieved consistently high ratings.

The 2012 Champion of Champions of was the first we’d competed in.  It was an honour and a privilege to hear Kel’s name read out as Champion in such illustrious company.  I am very proud her name is engraved on the cup alongside the wonderful previous Champions.

Kel is recovering from serious wrist and shoulder injury.  Fingers crossed she can compete in future Champion of Champion events.  Even if it’s just a slow stroll in the park for fun, nothing would make her happier than to be out there again.

DOB 11 May 2005

Morag has earned her Community Companion Dog (CCD) and Track and Search Dog (TSD) titles.  She has been doing some obedience training but seems to enjoy tracking more. Winning Champion of Champions in 2010 was such a great moment, as we did not expect to win.  I think it took a while to sink in - it was fantastic! We will be competing in future Champions events, trying to do work our best and enjoy ourselves.

2009 T CH FERNAMBER TRADITION CD TSD "Tully"
Golden Retriever

owned by Kim Houlden
DOB 26 February 2001

Fernamber Tradition

Tully has always been such a friendly, happy boy who just loves to work with his Mum.  He took to tracking like a duck to water and commenced trialling in 2002 at Gippsland’s TQT.  We certainly made Dawn, our judge, move pretty fast that day.  He went on to successfully complete each track that year to become a Tracking Champion and Tracking Dog of the Year with the Tracking Club of Victoria and the Golden Retriever Club of Victoria.

In early 2007 we started obedience trialling, another activity that Tully enjoys.  Everyone loves his fast pace as he bounds along beside me, no one would believe he is nine years old now.  He gained both his CCD and CD titles in 2007 and is having fun in the open class.  Hopefully those passes aren’t too far away.

Tully blew me away with the way he tracked at the 2007 Champions event.  After having to abort our first track he came out again in the afternoon and after picking up the start, just took off.  I loved Pete’s comment on the result sheet – gun track, pinpoint turns.  It was amazing to be on the end of that line, behind my clever boy.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Tully could surpass his effort in 2007 but he did.  He took off from the start in 2009 and did not look back.  He managed to put in another great track to take out the champion of Champions title for a second time.

Tully gained his Track and Search Dog title in 2009 and in April 2010 he became one of the first dogs in the country to gain his Track and Search Dog Excellent title.

2008 T CH LONGWEIS FINALE  "Finn"
Long Haired Weimaraner

owned by Trish and Tony Wileman
DOB 21 August 2004
handled by Tony Wileman

Well after I won Champs in 2008, things were VERY DIFFERENT.  My Dad was over the moon and Mum was a little bit crazier than she already is!  I gained a new best buddy, Rio the standard poodle.  Rio is a bossy little thing, but hey, he’s not all that bad!  I have been doing Track and Search Dog Trialling and gained my TSD title.  So we’ll be doing urban tracking and that looks like loads of fun.

Just a little heads up from one Champion to another….. LOOK HARD and for goodness sake try to find that silly wallet and wood article out there on the tracks…..they’ll love you to bits and you’ll get extra treats for it!

Hopefully Tully and I will have many more obedience competitions and the new Track and Search tracks to enjoy in the coming years.

2006 T CH HEVNSENT WHATA WHIRLWIND HIT "Rani"
Australian Shepherd

owned by Cheryl Smith
DOB 12 October 2002

Since winning Champion of Champions in 2006, Rani has enjoyed semi-retirement.  In 2007 she trained in obedience for the novice class and also some agility training, but has not competed so far.  (Not her fault, her owner’s fault.)

Most of the time she watches her partner in crime Harry (Hevnsent Spice It Up) learning the art of tracking.

Whirlwind by name and whirlwind by nature!  Rani is most likely to be seen chasing joggers or two wheeled vehicles!

2005 T CH FERNAMBER TALISMAN CDX "Paddington"
Golden Retriever

owned by Cheryl and Clive Gibson
DOB 26 February 2001
handled by Dawn Howard

Fernamber Talisman CDX

Paddington, T Ch Fernamber Talisman CDX is a star in our household and our first dog to compete in tracking – but not the last!  Paddington earned his CD at 13 months in 2002, earning six qualifying scores in the Novice class.  He quickly followed that with his CDX title in 2002 and then began training for the Utility class.

With some encouragement from Dawn Howard, Clive and Paddington started training in tracking and Paddington quickly decided that this was what he wanted to do!  In 2004 Paddington began competing at Tracking Trials.  Paddington qualified for all six tracking tests and his TQT in the 2004 season gaining three excellent gradings along the way.  We were very excited when Paddington was awarded Tracking Dog of the Year 2004 by the Tracking Club of Victoria, based on his scores throughout the season.  His litter brother, Tully, T Ch Fernamber Tradition had also been given this award in 2002!

In May 2005, Paddington lost his best mate Clive, who is no doubt spending some time at Rainbow Bridge helping out with training!

But our biggest thrill was yet to come!  In August 2005, Paddington and Dawn competed at the Tracking Club’s Champion of Champions weekend.  In training for this event, Paddington often neglected to indicate the wooden article, but on this day he was perfect (well almost!).  At the end of a great day, Paddington was named the Champion of Champions!  Smiles all round for our clever boy!
