Hello Everyone,

July and August is the busiest time in the tracking calendar with so many trials being held. The weather has been kind to us and the grounds, thanks to all the rain earlier in the season, have been terrific. Huge congratulations to all our members who have gained passes and titles with their dogs.

The entry numbers at trials have been great, but there are a few things I would like to draw everyone’s attention to in regard to entering trials.

Firstly if you enter a trial for let’s say a Test 2 and you also enter the next two trials at the same time due to closing dates for a Test 2 as well, when you pass your test you must advise the trial secretaries of all the trials you have already entered, but may not yet have competed at. Please do not wait until the trial before each one to do it. If you have entered for an 800 metre Test 2 and at the next trial you need to upgrade to a Test 3 then by the time you get to your third trial all of a sudden you need a 1,000 metre test and at that short notice the Club may not be able to accommodate your upgrade.

Advising everyone on an ongoing basis ensures that the Clubs can do everything possible to accommodate upgrades. For example, a Test 2 means the club is expecting you to bring along a tracklayer so they don’t have to worry about an unknown for you, but if you move up through the tests you will then not only require more distance on your test but you will also require the club to furnish you with an unknown tracklayer.

Secondly, I have noticed recently handlers forgetting to thank the most important person at the end of the track. Pass or fail, without the tracklayer you would not have the opportunity to track with your dog. Ensure you remember to thank them; they have sat out at the end of your test waiting anything from just over 30 minutes to sometimes 3 hours for you and your dog to find them. Just keep in mind tracklayers a precious commodity and they don’t have to agree to lay your test just because a judge asks them to!!

Thirdly, I have also noticed that some competitors are leaving before presentations are completed. I know when you don’t have a pass card to collect it can be a little hollow to stay to the end of the trial, but I believe it is part of tracking etiquette! I can remember being the only non-qualifier on the day at a tracking trial, and I can also remember being the only pass on a day at a tracking trial! It would have been a very lonely presentation if everyone had left before I was handed my pass card. So keep it in mind, stay and cheer on your fellow trackers pass or fail because it’s nice to share successes and discuss the what ifs!!!

So please, be considerate of the Trial Secretaries, your Tracklayers & your fellow competitors, just remember they are all there helping you and your dog enjoy the world of tracking!

On a lighter note, I know there have been many titles gained this year so start filling in your applications for your title medallions now and send them off to our Secretary Sue Keane as soon as possible. It takes a lot of time to collate everything to send it off to the trophy people so the earlier they are received the easier it will be for Sue, rather than receiving 50 in the last few days before the closing date.

Don’t forget tracklayers to enter the Tracklayer of the Year Award, I think it will be keenly contested this year with many of you being little treasures and laying heaps of tests this season.
The Old Gold Cup is also another keenly contested prize for our more mature dogs, so please get your applications in as soon as the season is over.

Earlier in August the TCV held a Special General Meeting to consider a change to our By-Law that covers membership fees. The membership also considered the addition of two new By Laws. I am pleased to report that all proposed amendments and additions were supported at the meeting and are now in affect from the next renewal of membership period and for all new memberships that join the Club from the 1st October as they will be financial until 31st December 2012.

Lastly I would like to say it was a shame that the 2011 Champion of Champions event had to be cancelled due to safety reasons. Due to the rising flood waters in the Goulburn River the Committee and the Working Party, in consultation, made the difficult decision not to proceed as the safety of our members and their dogs was paramount in our minds. It was disappointing for all involved, I would like to thank the Working Party members for all the hard work they did in preparation of the 2011 event. We look forward to the 2012 event and will keep you all updated on the progress in due course.

Well there is just one more tracking trial for the season left and two track and search trials, I wish everyone who is entered success, whether that be with a pass card or just a great day out with your dogs and your fellow competitors.

May every tracking trial you attend give you memories to enjoy for years to come!! I know I have loads of them! Enjoy the rest of the season and look forward to seeing you all at the AGM and Presentation Night.

Take care, until next time

Cheers
Lynn Klecka
