Hello Everyone,
July and August is the busiest time in the tracking calendar with so many trials being held. The weather has been kind to us and the grounds, thanks to all the rain earlier in the season, have been terrific. Huge congratulations to all our members who have gained passes and titles with their dogs.
The entry numbers at trials have been great, but there are a few things I would like to draw everyone’s attention to in regard to entering trials.
Firstly if you enter a trial for let’s say a Test 2 and you also enter the next two trials at the same time due to closing dates for a Test 2 as well, when you pass your test you must advise the trial secretaries of all the trials you have already entered, but may not yet have competed at. Please do not wait until the trial before each one to do it. If you have entered for an 800 metre Test 2 and at the next trial you need to upgrade to a Test 3 then by the time you get to your third trial all of a sudden you need a 1,000 metre test and at that short notice the Club may not be able to accommodate your upgrade.
Advising everyone on an ongoing basis ensures that the Clubs can do everything possible to accommodate upgrades. For example, a Test 2 means the club is expecting you to bring along a tracklayer so they don’t have to worry about an unknown for you, but if you move up through the tests you will then not only require more distance on your test but you will also require the club to furnish you with an unknown tracklayer.
Secondly, I have noticed recently handlers forgetting to thank the most important person at the end of the track. Pass or fail, without the tracklayer you would not have the opportunity to track with your dog. Ensure you remember to thank them; they have sat out at the end of your test waiting anything from just over 30 minutes to sometimes 3 hours for you and your dog to find them. Just keep in mind tracklayers a precious commodity and they don’t have to agree to lay your test just because a judge asks them to!!
Thirdly, I have also noticed that some competitors are leaving before presentations are completed. I know when you don’t have a pass card to collect it can be a little hollow to stay to the end of the trial, but I believe it is part of tracking etiquette! I can remember being the only non-qualifier on the day at a tracking trial, and I can also remember being the only pass on a day at a tracking trial! It would have been a very lonely presentation if everyone had left before I was handed my pass card. So keep it in mind, stay and cheer on your fellow trackers pass or fail because it’s nice to share successes and discuss the what ifs!!!
So please, be considerate of the Trial Secretaries, your Tracklayers & your fellow competitors, just remember they are all there helping you and your dog enjoy the world of tracking!
On a lighter note, I know there have been many titles gained this year so start filling in your applications for your title medallions now and send them off to our Secretary Sue Keane as soon as possible. It takes a lot of time to collate everything to send it off to the trophy people so the earlier they are received the easier it will be for Sue, rather than receiving 50 in the last few days before the closing date.
Don’t forget tracklayers to enter the Tracklayer of the Year Award, I think it will be keenly contested this year with many of you being little treasures and laying heaps of tests this season.
The Old Gold Cup is also another keenly contested prize for our more mature dogs, so please get your applications in as soon as the season is over.
Earlier in August the TCV held a Special General Meeting to consider a change to our By-Law that covers membership fees. The membership also considered the addition of two new By Laws. I am pleased to report that all proposed amendments and additions were supported at the meeting and are now in affect from the next renewal of membership period and for all new memberships that join the Club from the 1st October as they will be financial until 31st December 2012.
Lastly I would like to say it was a shame that the 2011 Champion of Champions event had to be cancelled due to safety reasons. Due to the rising flood waters in the Goulburn River the Committee and the Working Party, in consultation, made the difficult decision not to proceed as the safety of our members and their dogs was paramount in our minds. It was disappointing for all involved, I would like to thank the Working Party members for all the hard work they did in preparation of the 2011 event. We look forward to the 2012 event and will keep you all updated on the progress in due course.
Well there is just one more tracking trial for the season left and two track and search trials, I wish everyone who is entered success, whether that be with a pass card or just a great day out with your dogs and your fellow competitors.
May every tracking trial you attend give you memories to enjoy for years to come!! I know I have loads of them! Enjoy the rest of the season and look forward to seeing you all at the AGM and Presentation Night.
Take care, until next time
Cheers

Hello Everyone,
Over the last few months there has been a change to the Committee personal. Firstly Kim Houlden resigned from Committee. Then Gary Fainges accepted the nomination from his peers on Committee to take on the office of Vice President.
And just in the last few weeks the Committee has seconded Roger Corlass to join them until our next election at the AGM.
I am sure you join me in thanking all these members for their valuable contribution to the TCV.
During the last few weekends both the Working Dog and Gundog Tracking Trials were held to kick the season off. Congratulations to all the successful teams.
It was great to see a couple of new members who attended our annual training workshop last month taking the plunge and entering their first trial and gaining passes.........well done!!
The Club has also held its first Track and Search Trial of the season this time the Club hired the Field and Game grounds at Haddon just outside Ballarat. Although the weather forecast was not the best leading up to the trial, the weather turned out to be really kind to us all and it was great to see all the dogs out enjoying themselves once again, congratulations to all the teams that did so well over the three days.
With regard to the 2011 Champion of Champions club competition, there has been some talk about the status of the event.
I would like to put everyone’s concerns at ease, the event is proceeding in July; your Committee is committed to continuing the event.
The Committee and the Champion of Champions Working Party are working together to ensure that the 2011 is a fun and enjoyable weekend for all involved.
The July tracking trial is also just around the corner, if you are able to assist in any way at this trial held at Broadford please contact Andrea Sciberras our Trial Secretary with your details.
Good luck to everyone in the upcoming trials, and above all enjoy yourselves out there!!!
Take care, until next time
Cheers

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
I remember writing a report a couple of years ago for the first edition of Track On for the year where I spoke about the horrendous bush fires that had devastated so much of country Victoria and hoping that all our members and farmers were safe and well. This year I find myself thinking about the recent cyclone and floods that decimated Queensland and the ensuing floods that impacted on both New South Wales and Victoria.
My thoughts are also with our farmer friends who have had so much to deal with over the last decade from drought to fire and now flood, well what is the old saying ....things come in threes ...let’s hope so................
The canine community has once again rallied to assist all of its members who have been affected by the floods. I encourage you to enter the virtual dog show on line via the Dogs Victoria website as your entry fee will be going directly to assist those in need. The virtual show is for all dogs; past and current canine family members either pure breed or from mixed marriages all are welcome to enter.
Details can be found at www.dogsvictoria.org.au
The Club has another very busy year ahead in 2011 with the annual workshop weekend in late April which is filling very fast, the Champion of Champions event, the tracking trials and the track and search trials all bound to keep us on our toes.
If you are able to assist at any of these events please contact the trial secretary, event coordinator or speak to any committee member who will be only too pleased to pass on your details to the relevant person.
Recently your Committee reviewed the price of entry fees to TCV trials as well as club fees paid to judges who officiate at the events.
The Committee believes the new entry fee structure for members versus non-members at trials is of a good benefit to the membership, whilst the changes to the club’s judging fees takes into account the introduction of the TSD trials with fees scaled accordingly from Open Tracking Trials through to urban only TSD trials.
The 2011 tracking season is almost upon us so it is time to drag out the tracking bag and check all your equipment, and make sure the harness still fits correctly after all the festive cheer!!! Get out those tracking boots and make sure they are still waterproof as I think this year we will all be in need of good boots and wet weather gear.
Last month Mrs. Kim Houlden submitted her resignation from the Committee of the Tracking Club of Victoria and her position as Vice President. I am sure you all join with me in sincerely thanking Kim for the many years of invaluable service she has given to the Club whilst a member of the Committee and wish her all the best for the future and look forward to catching up at trials in 2011.
Speaking of which, I look forward to catching up with YOU at a trial somewhere soon.
Until next time, may your boots be warm and dry!!

| Congratulations - Helen den Hartog - Life Membership (Published By : Webmaster Robert Tester) 2010-11-10 14:46:17 | Toggle +/- |

Helen has been in the Tracking club of Victoria for over ten years and in that time she has worked tirelessly as a member, committee member, club secretary, Steward, handler and judge. Helen's greatest attribute is the fact that it does not matter what is happening around her or where she is, she is always one of the first people in to help ensure the job is done. Over the years we have all taken for granted the time put in to organizing land for our Inverleigh Trial, Helen just did it ! In her role as clud secretary she spen hours of work in the background to ensure evrthing ran smoothly. Apart from all the background work she has tracked her dogs and judged. The time and support she has given the club has been enormous.
Both our congratulate and thanks go to Helen on her award of life membership, it is well deserved. It only with people like Helen that our club will continue to survive.
